Drug Drug Description Deferoxamine A chelating agent used to treat iron or aluminum toxicity and some blood transfusion dependent anemias. Penicillamine A chelator used to treat Wilson's disease, cystinuria, and rheumatoid arthritis. Edetic acid A chelating agent used to treat mercury and lead toxicity and some blood transfusion dependent anemias. Deferasirox An iron chelator used to treat chronic iron overload caused by blood transfusions. Also used in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia syndromes, and in patients with elevated liver iron concentration and serum ferritin. Dimercaprol A chelating agent used as an antidote to arsenic, gold, and mercury poisoning, as well as acute lead poisoning in combination with edetate calcium disodium. Deferiprone An iron chelator used to treat patients with transfusional iron overload caused by thalassemia syndromes.
