Functions
drug binding / extracellular-glycine-gated chloride channel activity / extracellular-glycine-gated ion channel activity / glycine binding
Processes
acrosome reaction / adult walking behavior / chloride transmembrane transport / gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor clustering / ion transmembrane transport / ion transport / nervous system development / neuropeptide signaling pathway / protein heterooligomerization / regulation of membrane potential / response to amino acid / righting reflex / startle response / synaptic transmission / synaptic transmission, glycinergic / transmembrane transport / visual perception
Components
cell junction / chloride channel complex / integral component of plasma membrane / neuron projection / plasma membrane / postsynaptic membrane / synapse
General Function
Glycine binding
Specific Function
The glycine receptor is a neurotransmitter-gated ion channel. Binding of glycine to its receptor increases the chloride conductance and thus produces hyperpolarization (inhibition of neuronal firing).
