Drugs used for their effects on the kidneys' regulation of body fluid composition and volume. The most commonly used are the diuretics. Also included are drugs used for their antidiuretic and uricosuric actions, for their effects on the kidneys' clearance of other drugs, and for diagnosis of renal function.
Drug Drug Description Cycloserine A broad-spectrum antibiotic used in the treatment of tuberculosis and certain urinary tract infections (UTI). Trimethoprim An antifolate antibiotic often used in combination with sulfamethoxazole to treat a number of infections, including those of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract. Furazolidone For the specific and symptomatic treatment of bacterial or protozoal diarrhea and enteritis caused by susceptible organisms. Sulfacetamide A corticosteroid used to treat inflammatory ocular conditions and acne vulgaris. Sulfametopyrazine For the treatment of urinary tract infection and chronic bronchitis. Nitrofurantoin An antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections. Probenecid A medication used to treat gouty arthritis, tophaceous gout, and hyperuricemia. Levofloxacin A fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat infections caused by susceptible bacteria of the upper respiratory tract, skin and skin structures, urinary tract, and prostate, as well as for post-exposure treatment of inhaled anthrax and the plague. Sulfinpyrazone A platelet inhibitory and uricosuric agent used to inhibit thrombotic and embolic processes and to manage the chronic phases of gout . Amdinocillin Used in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by some strains of E. coli and klebsiella and enterobacter species. Used mainly against Gram negative organisms. Ofloxacin An antibacterial agent used for the treatment of bacterial infections in many parts of the body, including the respiratory tract, kidney, skin, soft tissue, and urinary tract. Sulfadoxine A long acting sulfonamide used for the treatment or prevention of malaria. Nitroxoline Nitroxoline is an antibiotic agent. Pivmecillinam A prodrug of the beta lactam antibiotic mecillinam, indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). Tienilic acid For the treatment of hypertension. Methenamine A urinary tract antiseptic and antibacterial drug used for the prophylaxis and treatment of frequently recurring urinary tract infections requiring a long-term therapy. Sulfameter Long acting sulfonamide used in leprosy, urinary, and respiratory tract infections.
