GO Classification
Functions
alpha2-adrenergic receptor activity / epinephrine binding
Processes
activation of MAPK activity by adrenergic receptor signaling pathway / activation of protein kinase B activity / blood coagulation / cell-cell signaling / epidermal growth factor-activated receptor transactivation by G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway / G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway / negative regulation of epinephrine secretion / negative regulation of norepinephrine secretion / platelet activation / positive regulation of neuron differentiation / regulation of smooth muscle contraction / regulation of vasoconstriction
Components
integral component of plasma membrane / plasma membrane
General Function
Epinephrine binding
Specific Function
Alpha-2 adrenergic receptors mediate the catecholamine-induced inhibition of adenylate cyclase through the action of G proteins. The rank order of potency for agonists of this receptor is clonidine > norepinephrine > epinephrine = oxymetazoline > dopamine > p-tyramine = phenylephrine > serotonin > p-synephrine / p-octopamine. For antagonists, the rank order is yohimbine > chlorpromazine > phentolamine > mianserine > spiperone > prazosin > alprenolol > propanolol > pindolol.
